  • Earrings: Big Is Bold and Beautiful

Posted on February 15, 2018 by benna

    The Return of Statement Earrings

Each year, we see trends come and go. Skimming through glossy pages in magazines to see what styles will be dropping in stores, and 2018 is no different, this spring/summer: big is bold and beautiful.

    Keeping It Simple

Slicked hair, brushed away from a preened face appeared to showcase the ears and neck as a canvas, perfect for stunning pieces of jewellery. At Maison Margiela the earrings were simple but elegant, creating a focal point. A beautiful pair from Chanel's S/S 2018 catwalk, a set of pared down drop earrings. The highly polished crystal glistens against the model's face in a spring garden backdrop. Over at Balenciaga, models wore guilded chunky earrings but these shaped crystal drop earrings stood out, they're chunky but not garish.

    Big, Bold, and Elaborate

Saint Laurent's show glittered with countless chandelier earrings but these oversized crystals sparkled amongst them. Asymmetric earrings dominated Burberry's catwalk, but each one shone- big and encrusted with crystals. Models at Dries Van Noten were enarmoured with chunky earrings, some crawled up the ear and others featured clusters of crystal strands that danced and swayed to the rhythm of the model's strut.

One take away is that big is bold and beautiful. Will you be wearing statement earrings this spring?

  • Layer Up

Posted on October 9, 2016 by Rina

As we prepare our wardrobes for the cooler season, let's look to the catwalk for some inspiration on adding some much needed sparkle to our functional outfits.
A reoccurring trend on the catwalk for Autumn Winter 2016-17 was layering necklaces.

    moschino-valentino

Moschino mixed and matched strings of pearls with chunky silver chains.
At Valentino, necks were adorned with multi-chained necklaces featuring burnished silver charms.

    chanel-wang

Chanel opted for their signature multi-strand pearls over jackets, an elegant classic.
Models strutted down the Alexander Wang runway wearing leather chokers and big link chains for a grunge look.

  • Catching up with Pretty Posh Oh My Gosh

Posted on June 21, 2015 by Benna

We recently caught up with the lovely Lauren and Felicity, to talk about their blog, Pretty Posh Oh My Gosh, to find out a little more about launching it, what they get up to on a daily basis and to find out their future plans for it.

Alex Monroe & Pretty Posh Oh My Gosh

How did the idea behind Pretty Posh Oh My Gosh first come about?

After graduation we wanted to find a way to still be super creative and use our writing skills combined with an admiration for other blogs and publications that we were reading at the time. Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh came about with three price points looking at new trends and how we could introduce them into our own style. Over the past three and half years it has developed into a reflection of our lifestyle, showcasing fashion, beauty, travel and food from our day to day lives as well as reflecting on our aspirations too!

How did you go ahead and set it up?

In February 2012 we took the jump, thought of the name and used Blogger to create our own slice of the Internet. Using our own talents and skills and developing them further using tutorials and a little bit of reflection along the way we have found our outreach, social and photography improve.

How would you describe your style?

Felicity: Ever-changing! I'm a style chameleon, changing depending not on what is inspiring me at the time. This summer its white and blue - Santorini inspired style and in Autumn Winter I'll be stepping out in bookish yet boho - I'm looking forward to the rusty colours which are everywhere!

Lauren: Classic and girly, you'll rarely see me in a pair of trousers. I love blush pink and emerald greens. Being a red head, I find it hard to be colourful so often fall back on my trusty black get-up, however, I am more colourful this summer with lots of blues and greens filling up my summer suitcase.

What jewellery are you wearing right now?

Felicity: Gold antique ring, a simple gold pendant and my Casio watch which I adore. I never mix my metals as I don't feel well put together when I do!

Lauren: My 18th birthday Tiffany heart necklace and Tiffany bangle. I'm a little bit of a Tiffany magpie and all of the jewellery is special to me.

Tell us what your average day would consist of?

Felicity: I always have a cup of earl grey and a good breakfast before heading out. I always post at least twice a day on Instagram and am always looking at other peoples feeds so I have a scroll on there way to work. Checking the blog emails over lunch and texting Lauren about upcoming schedules will take up my lunch break. I like to work out too- my favourites are barre core and walking in the country where I live. We go to press events at least twice a week which consumes quite a lot of the evenings. We do most of our writing in the evenings so I crash on the sofa and edit photographs before bed.

Lauren: I usually sort my outfit the night before so I get up and go to work - I work in consumer PR so brand collaborations come really naturally to me. I look on Twitter and the news to keep up to date with what other bloggers and brands are doing. Lunchtime is spent chatting to Flic and wandering around the shops- I work in central London and so temptation is never far away. I'm training for a 10K charity run so I take a run around Olympic Park near where I live. My evenings are spent doing blogger chats, events and photo shoots with Flic when she is in London.

Which jewellery piece is most important to you?

Felicity: Aforementioned gold and emerald ring which my boyfriend gave to me for our first anniversary and I wear it everyday.

Lauren: A ring for me too! I have a stunning peridot (my birthstone) square cut ring which my boyfriend gave to me 6 years ago and it's incredibly precious to me!

Which Alex Monroe piece do you love the most?

Felicity: The gold baby bee - it's really delicate and I gravitate towards delicate pieces. It's really wearable and classic.

Lauren: Well my surname is Beeslee and I'm a bit of a rose gold fiend, so it is the Bumble Bee is rose gold for me!

What can we expect to see from Pretty Posh Oh My Gosh in the next year?

Lots of exciting new brand collaborations, we are keen to travel a lot more and have started this already. Our aim is really to build quality and readership and make our blog one that people want to bookmark!

  • Exclusive Interview with Alex Monroe

Posted on June 21, 2015 by Benna

We recently had the pleasure of chatting to Alex Monroe to discover more on the history of the jewellery collection, his favourite pieces and making jewellery for everyone to wear.

    Alex Monroe

How did the idea behind Alex Monroe first come about?

I did this fantastic course at the Royal College of Art when I graduated at Art School, which culminated in writing a business plan and presenting it to bank managers. My love of fashionable, wearable, quirky British design, combined with a wonderful technical training, set my signature design and craftsmanship. But it was researching the jewellery market that made me realise that I wanted to make beautifully crafted pieces in silver and sell them at an affordable price. I knew I didn't want to be an exclusive Bond Street jeweller, or an exclusive art gallery jeweller, I wanted to make fashion jewellery for people to wear.

How did you go ahead and set it up?

Well, I got the loan from the bank manager, made some jewellery and sold it. Then I bought more materials and went on from there. Before I knew where I was I was running a business!

How would you describe the style of Alex Monroe?

Above all I hope we’re wearable. The ideals I set for myself right at the start remain; It’s pretty, delicate and feminine. It has a very British quirkiness. It’s beautifully hand made in the UK. And it’s fashionable and wearable. And great value too!

Tell us a bit about the Beyond the Sea collection?

This was one of the most fun to make. I based it on mariners and explorers of yesteryear. The excitement and fear of a long voyage and separation, missing loved ones, fear of the unknown, and then the joy of re-union. Anchors represent good luck, swallows symbolise returning. There was a great exhibition on at the Greenwich maritime museum, the symbolism and motifs were perfect.

    alex monroe 2

Which Alex Monroe piece is most important to you?

The next one, the one I haven’t made yet. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love everything I’ve already made, it’s just so exciting working on new pieces.

Which celebrity/model would you most like to see wearing Alex Monroe?

I don’t really care! Bless them all but we’re really about making jewellery for real people to wear. We always say that we’ve never met a customer we didn’t like. Anyone whe loves our jewellery is great.

What can we expect to see from Alex Monroe in the next year?

More of the same I hope. If we’ve been doing it well for nearly thirty years, we’ll keep on doing it in the future. We’re all having great fun, there’s always lots of exciting projects on the go, so more of the same is good for me!
